A versatile stand fits your needs for either stable or portable
placement of a large umbrella is the Rolling Umbrella Base.
You can adjust your umbrella and base to maximize shade coverage
while retaining stability.
This base is plenty robust for umbrellas likely to be used at home with
its 19" square footprint.
The base has an extension piece that threads into the very bottom of the
heavy part from the top and extends above it.
The extension's top has a chuck (like a drill) to grip the
umbrella pole with enough force to resist rotation in the wind.
There are two ferrules to reduce the grip range continuously
between 0.84" (21mm) and 1.5" (38mm).
Just lose any unused ferrules in with the ballast for later finding.
At the inside bottom of the extension is a centering cone shape, so that
the pole is siezed across the bottom foot of its length.
On one side of the base there is a wide roller that contacts
the ground for rolling when slightly tilted by the handle recess
on the opposite side.
A 1.5" fill plug with a finger loop on top allows the hollow
white polythylene to be filled with water
for a weight of 70 lb. or sand for 110 lb.
Two more smaller plugs can be pried out to drain it completely.
Carry by the handle to and fro empty (only 6 lb.)
with the center extension neatly attached to
the bottom, and use whatever's at your destination as ballast.
Upgrading to sand will allow a higher combination of umbrella and
wind stability but it would take effort to roll.
This base will fit under tables with four straight legs- or use
it on the south side to shade a tabletop (northern latitudes).
It will not fit under a table with one center pole or four arc legs that
join at the center.
